Overseers / Bishops

In 1 Timothy 3:1-7, the Apostle Paul provided Timothy the qualifications for a bishop. A bishop is an overseer of the church.

Those who aspire to this position are recognized to desire a good work in Christian ministry.

Qualifications for Male and Female Overseers/Bishops:

Character Traits

- blameless

- husband of one wife

- temperate

- sober-minded

- of good behavior

- hospitable

- able to teach

- not given to wine

- not violent

- not greedy for money

- gentle

- not quarrelsome

- not covetous

- rules his own house well

- having his children in submission with all reverence

- not a novice (not a new convert)

- must have a good testimony among those who are outside
