Meaning: "Dwelling" (Genesis 30:20)
Symbol: Ship
Stone/Color: Beryl (emerald) / Possibly green (Exodus 28:17)
Family: Tenth son of Jacob, born to Leah (Genesis 30:20)
Size: First Census: 57,400. Second Census: 60,500.
Location: Small portion of southern Galilee
Jacob's Blessing: "Zebulun shall dwell by the haven of the sea; he shall become a haven for ships" (Genesis 49:13).
Moses' Blessing: Zebulun and Issachar will "partake of the abundance of the seas and of treasures hidden in the sand" (Deuteronomy 33:18-19).
Notable: Deborah commended this tribe for risking their lives (Judges 5:18). They supported David being "stouthearted men who could keep ranks" (1 Chronicles 12:33). When Hezekiah called for spiritual renewal, people from Asher, Manasseh and Zebulun humbled themselves and traveled to Jerusalem ( 2 Chronicles 30:10). Jesus began His ministry in Galilee - the land of Zebulun and Naphtali - fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy (Matthew 4:13-22; Isaiah 9:1-2).
