Meaning: "Good Fortune" (0r "Warrior") (Genesis 30:11)
Symbol: Tents, like a battlefield camp
Stone/Color: Emerald (or diamond) / Possibly a stone with little color (Exodus 28:18)
Family: Seventh son of Jacob, born to Leah's handmaiden Zilpah (Genesis 30:9-11)
Size: First Census: 46,650. Second Census: 40,500.
Location: Fertile land outside the Promised Land, along the Jordan River (Numbers 32).
Jacob's Blessing: "Gad, a troop shall tramp upon him, but he shall triumph at last" (Genesis 49:19).
Moses' Blessing: Gad is commended for administering "the justice of the Lord, and His judgments with Israel" (Deuteronomy 33:21).
Notable: Gadites who supported David in his conquest of Jerusalem were described as "mighty men of valor, men trained for battle, who could handle shield and spear" (1 Chronicles 12:8).
